Thoughts and musings for general consumption
I recently decided to give in to the hype and buy a pack of Momofuku Sweet & Spicy Noodles.
I got 5 packs for about $20. This is more expensive than, say, standard ramen at the grocery store.
After waiting a very long time for delivery, I tried the first pack today. I really enjoyed them but am not sure this is worth the money. For example, you could probably just buy dry ramen noodles and add some chili condiment (the kind with crunchy bits of pepper in there) with a bit of honey to them and achieve the same result. Having said that, I haven’t costed out buying these ingredients separately, and this product seemed like a good quality product with a very well balanced “flavor packet”.
They aren’t salty and greasy like a standard ramen pack. It feels much more elevated and the ingredients I added to the noodles (mostly some chicken wing meat) added a lot to the meal where in standard ramen it would be dressing up a low quality product.
Anyway, I am still on the fence about whether they were worth the money.
The portion size is just right and they are an excellent base for adding on your own spin.
Next time, I will almost certainly be adding in some spinach or green onion and a soft poached egg.
