Thoughts and musings for general consumption
Life has been an unbroken chain since the moment it began.
One of the characteristics of life is that life begets life. There was, at some point, a transition from inanimate matter to an animate configuration that was only slightly more alive than a rock. Since that time our life has been unbroken.
The first spark probably happened billions of times. And of those there were many that got past the first iteration (or so I suppose) and learned to replicate by accident. And of those, some turned into what we might recognize as life.
Since that time, whatever life you see around you has come from one of those beginnings, unbroken. Because life begets life. When you really think deeply about it, it’s hard to ignore this fact and be amazed by it. Family is everything, precisely because it is the only thing. And life is truly a slowly unfolding complexity that never stops growing and changing. The Earth, in this sense, is also truly a special place where the life we know either began or found a new home.
So knowing all that, please keep things on perspective the next time you get cut off in traffic or someone grabs the last carton of eggs at the grocery store.
